COLORADO

With energy and fuel prices increasing, Colorado’s economy could be facing some hard times. Our reliance on non-renewable sources of energy is also contributing to global warming, which poses big problems for Colorado. However, if we choose to act now, the benefits will be great. With a $300 billion investment over ten years, the US economy will see 3.3 million new jobs and a $1.4 trillion GDP gain, along with $284 billion in net energy cost savings. (i)

Colorado citizens could face other problems, as well. A drier climate increases the possibilities of devastating forest fires in Colorado. This has tremendous impacts for Colorado homeowners and farmers. (ii)

At the root of both of these problems—a slowing economy and a warming planet—is our dependence on fossil fuels. Colorado currently relies heavily on dirty coal for much of its energy. (iii)

With a strong commitment to clean energy, Colorado can create new jobs while fighting global warming.

Colorado can meet 1,542% of our current energy needs with clean, renewable energy sources! (iv)

Here in Colorado, steps are already being taken to fight global warming. The Colorado Climate Action Plan calls for cutting emissions 80% below 2005 levels by 2050 as well as providing greener electricity sources. (v)

But the job is far from over. We need to continue to pursue innovative solutions in the fight against global climate change, and we’re going to need effective leadership.
