CONNECTICUT

With record fuel and energy prices, Connecticut’s economy is ailing. By depending on fossil fuels, we are also contributing to global warming. With climate inaction comes economic loss. If we do nothing about global warming, Connecticut could lose 15,542 jobs! (i)

As a coastal state, rising sea levels as a result of global warming would have a devastating effect on Connecticut’s economy. Costs to protect the coastline from a 22-inch rise in seas by 2100 could be as much as $3 billion. Warmer waters could also increase the intensity and duration of harmful red tides. (ii)

At the root of a hurting economy and a warming planet is reliance on non-renewable energy sources. (iii)

With a commitment to clean energy, Connecticut can put people to work while fighting global warming.

Connecticut has the potential to generate 52% of its energy from renewable sources! (iv)

Connecticut is active in the fight against global warming. It has exceeded the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) by mandating an 80% reduction in emissions below 2001 levels by 2050. (v)

But more remains to be done, and we need strong leadership to fight climate change.
