IDAHO
With soaring energy prices, the citizens and the economy of Idaho are facing hard times. An utter dependence on dirty fossil fuels is also leading to increased global warming. The economic cost of inaction is great, but the potential is enormous. With a $300 billion investment over ten years, the US economy will see 3.3 million new jobs. (i)
Idahoans will face challenges associated with climate change. A warmer climate means less snowfall, which translates into lower reservoirs and less water supplies in the summer and fall. Hotter temperatures could also lead to an increase in the frequency and intensity of wildfires throughout Idaho. (ii)
At the root of both of these problems—a slowing economy and a warming planet—is our dependence on fossil fuels. While Idaho is a leader among usage of renewable energy sources, much more remains that could be done. (iii)
With an increase in renewable electricity, we can create new jobs in Idaho.
Idaho has the capability to generate an incredible 743% of its energy needs from renewable energy sources! (iv)
Great strides have been made in the fight against climate change, but further action must be taken in order to eliminate Idaho’s risk for global-warming related problems. To do this, all we need is leadership.
