KENTUCKY
Facing record-high fuel and energy prices, Kentucky’s economy is hurting. Reliance on non-renewable fossil fuels is also contributing to global climate change. Global warming will have consequences for Kentucky. The effects will be tangible and real, but the solutions are manageable and can be implemented now! With a $300 billion investment over ten years, the US economy will see 3.3 million new jobs. (i)
At the root of our economic problems is our dependence on dirty, polluting energy sources. At present, Kentucky is almost entirely dependent on coal as a source of energy. (ii)
By investing in renewable energy, we can create thousands of good new jobs, cut our dependence on oil, and solve global warming.
In Kentucky, we have the ability to generate 61% of our energy from renewable sources! (iii)
While steps have been taken to combat the threat of climate change, an aggressive plan must be put into action to re-energize Kentucky’s economy. We just need leadership to get us started.
