New Mexico residents, facing record oil prices, are struggling. Our dependence on oil and other non-renewable energy sources is also fueling global climate change. By investing in cutting-edge clean energy technology, we can stop global warming and create jobs right here in New Mexico. With a strong investment over ten years, the US economy will see 3.3 million new jobs. (i)

At the heart of our economic troubles is our utter reliance on finite energy sources. Today New Mexico relies on outdated technologies-including coal, natural gas, and oil-to generate about the vast majority of its energy. (GRAPH WOULD GO HERE—small and integrated into text) (ii)

By investing in cutting edge renewable energy technology, we can put New Mexico residents to work powering the world’s clean energy future.

Right now, New Mexico has the potential to generate nearly 23 times the amount energy it needs from clean technologies like wind and solar! (iii)

Nonetheless, New Mexico has take steps toward reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. In 2007, the state mandated that 20% of its energy come from renewable sources, like solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass by 2020. (iv)

While important progress is being made, we need aggressive, strong leadership to continue fighting global warming.
