OHIO
With energy prices on the rise, Ohio’s economy is facing some hard times. Our utter dependence on fossil fuels does not help, and it is also adding to global warming. Evidence shows that if global warming continues as predicted, Ohio will lose as many as 22,922 jobs. (i) That is if we do NOT act.
Rampant usage of non-renewable sources of energy is at the heart of this problem. Today, Ohio relies on the energy sources of the past-including coal, natural gas, and oil-to generate nearly 90% of its energy. (ii)
By investing in cutting edge renewable energy technology, we can create jobs right here in Ohio, while fighting global warming at the same time.
Currently, Ohio has the potential to generate about 43% of the energy it needs from clean, renewable sources. (iii)
In recent years, Ohio has taken steps to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. This year the state mandated that 25% of its energy come from renewable sources, like solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass by 2025. (iv)
While progress is being made, it is going to take strong leadership to push us further along the way.
