TEXAS
With the highest oil prices on record, Texans are taking an economic hit. Dependence on oil and other non-renewable energy sources is also contributing to global warming. We cannot afford to bear the costs of allowing global warming to continue. Unless we take aggressive action to reverse climate change, Texas will lose more than 60,000 jobs. (i)
As global temperatures and sea levels rise, Texas will encounter a series of irreversible changes to its coastal economy. Current predictions show that sea level rise from global warming will devastate coastal communities as well as the state’s shrimp industry. Furthermore, even small increases in temperature will seriously worsen Texas cities’ struggle to minimize ozone pollution. (ii)
At the heart of these problems lies our reliance on fossil fuels. Today, Texas relies on coal, nuclear and natural gas to generate over 85% of its energy. (iii)
By investing in cutting edge renewable energy technology, we can create jobs right here in Texas while fueling America’s renewable energy future.
Currently, Texas has the potential to generate more than six times the energy it needs from clean, renewable sources! (iv)
We just need leadership to get us started.
