WEST VIRGINIA

With record fuel and energy prices, West Virginia’s economy is headed for trouble. Dependence on dirty fossil fuels is also leading to increased global warming. We cannot afford to allow global warming to continue. In fact, studies show that combating global warming will have tremendous economic benefits. With a strong commitment to renewable energy over ten years, the US economy will see 3.3 million new jobs. (i)

At the root of our economic problems is our reliance on non-renewable energy sources. West Virginia depends on coal for almost 100% of its energy.

By investing in renewable energy, West Virginia can bring new jobs to the state. Clean, renewable energy will also diversify the types of jobs and work environments for West Virginians currently working in the energy economy.

Currently, West Virginia has the potential to generate more than the energy it needs from clean, renewable sources! (iii)

What we need is leadership to get us started.
